The Cause of "Operation Desert Storm"
Operation Desert Storm was put into action by the United States and allied coalition. This operation was planned because the United States is friendly with Kuwait, an oil-rich country, and Kuwait was being targeted and attacked by Iraq. Saddam Hussein was in power at the time. He was the very harsh and cruel ruler of Iraq. He spent all the country's money on building the military so Iraq had to borrow a lot of money to pay for the previous war with Iran.
Saddam Hussein had 4 major reasons why the Iraqi army should attack Kuwait. 1) Kuwait was really a province of Iraq. 2) Kuwait was illegally stealing oil from the Iraqi Rumaili oil fields. 3) Kuwait has over-produced oil beyond its OPEC limits. 4) Kuwait had lent millions to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq conflict and had the nerve to want it paid back. So on August 9, 1990, Iraqi forces took the first step to invading Kuwait.
